History

India Canada Association of Saskatchewan Inc. (ICA) was founded in 1975 by a small group of Indo-Canadians interested in hosting events in the community to celebrate East Indian culture and customs. Since then, ICA has grown into a leader among local multicultural groups.

Annual ICA programming attracts hundreds of participants from the broader community. Our coalition activities allow us to outreach to various parts of the multicultural sector and beyond.

Our community engagement efforts have increased exponentially over the years. This is most evident through the fundraising support we provide to countless deserving charities and grassroots projects through our Annual Supper Night. Now one of the most prestigious fundraisers in the province, this event drew over 500 participants in 2010. ICA is proud to have so far raised $400,000 for both local and international charities.

Highlights in our evolving timeline

launched first Hindi school program in Regina

1981

began hosting classical Indian dance workshops

1982

hosted the first "India Pavilion" in Regina's "Mosaic Festival of Cultures"

1985

celebrated the first "Heritage Day of East Indians"

1987

published "Indo-Canadians in Saskatchewan: The Early Settlers"

1991

awarded "Best Pavilion" in Mosaic

2004

spearheaded the installation of a stature of Mahatma Ghandi in front of Regina City Hall
